William Andrade struck out 10 batters and helped the New Orleans Privateers secure a 3-2 victory over the Northwestern State Demons on March 20 at Brown-Stroud Field. The win marked the Privateers’ first series opening victory of the season.
The game was highlighted by Andrade’s strong pitching performance, as he worked into the eighth inning before Lane Alack took over in relief. Andrade’s outing was the longest by a Privateer pitcher this season and resulted in his first collegiate win.
Dylan Biddick provided early offense for New Orleans, hitting a double in the first inning to score Miles Curley and then launching a two-run home run in the third. The Demons responded with a solo home run from Thomas Marsala in the fourth and added another run on Marsala’s sacrifice fly in the eighth, narrowing New Orleans’ lead to one run.
In a tense ninth inning, Northwestern State threatened to tie or take the lead after Sebastian Huerta drew a walk and Lane Lusk advanced to third base on a wild pitch. However, Jayden Adcox tagged out Lusk at home following an attempted score, and Alack induced a groundout from Colin Rains to end the game. Alack earned his second save of the season.
New Orleans collected nine hits during the game, with Evan Rogers going 2-for-4. Owen Smith contributed with a hit, a walk, and his eighth stolen base of the year. Kruise Newman also stole a base while going 1-for-4 at bat. For Northwestern State, Brody Trosclair pitched six innings with 12 strikeouts but allowed three runs early.
The series is set to continue Saturday afternoon with a scheduled first pitch at 2 p.m.
