Tulane men’s basketball lost to Charlotte 73-70 on Friday night, despite a standout performance from Rowan Brumbaugh. The game, originally set for Sunday, January 25, was moved up due to expected inclement weather in the Charlotte area.
With this result, Tulane has now dropped four consecutive games and holds a 3-2 record in true road contests this season. The loss also puts Tulane at 11-17 all-time against Charlotte and 4-9 when playing in Charlotte.
Rowan Brumbaugh led Tulane with a career-high 35 points, shooting 11-of-15 from the field and converting 12-of-13 free throws. This marks his thirteenth straight game scoring in double figures and his second game of the season with at least 30 points. He also led the team with five rebounds.
Asher Woods was the only other Tulane player to score in double digits, finishing with 10 points. Luke Rasmussen contributed eight points off the bench in seven minutes during the second half, making all three of his shots including two three-pointers.
The first half saw both teams trading leads before Tulane held its largest advantage at 9-5 with just over thirteen minutes left. Charlotte took control late in the half, but Tulane closed the gap to trail by one point at halftime.
In the second half, Charlotte extended its lead to double digits and was ahead by as many as fifteen points late in the game. Tulane responded with a late surge, closing on a 7-0 run but ultimately fell short as time expired.
