Tulane University began its outdoor track and field season on March 20 with the Louisiana Classics at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex in Lafayette, Louisiana. Cara Salsberry delivered a standout performance for the Green Wave by achieving one of the top five discus throws in program history.
The opening day of the two-day event featured only two field events: javelin and discus. In the women’s discus, Salsberry recorded a throw of 46.76 meters, earning third place in the event and moving to fourth all-time in Tulane’s outdoor record books. Teammates Sofia Caruso and Quin Tandeih finished 30th and 34th respectively, with marks of 30.64 meters and 29.25 meters.
In javelin competition, Sofie Groeninger placed 13th among women with a throw of 35.26 meters, while Aiden Yang secured eighth place on the men’s side with a mark of 53.58 meters.
The Louisiana Classics will continue Saturday with additional field competitions and all track events scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m., starting with the women’s 1,000 meters followed by long jump at 9:30 a.m.
The meet marks an important start to Tulane’s outdoor campaign as athletes look to build momentum for upcoming competitions.
