Cara Salsberry achieved a first-place finish in the hammer throw at the LSU Alumni Gold meet, held on April 25 at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge. Salsberry also placed sixth in the discus event.
Salsberry’s performance was notable as she nearly broke her own school record for the third consecutive week. Her winning mark in the hammer throw was 59.03 meters, just short of her previous program-best of 59.94 meters set last week. In the discus, she recorded a distance of 50.25 meters, which improved her standing as second-best in program history and brought her closer to Jelena Jurlina’s record of 55.27 meters set in 2004.
Presley Wolfe was scheduled to compete in the pole vault but did not start at this meet.
The Tulane Green Wave track and field team had a light schedule over the weekend but is preparing for more competitions ahead of the American Conference Outdoor Championships. Next weekend, part of the team will travel to College Station, Texas for Texas A&M’s Alumni Muster on May 1 and 2, while another group will return to Baton Rouge for the LSU Invitational on May 2.
Following these meets, Tulane athletes will have a week off before competing in their conference championship.
