Cassie and Ellie Sieling were named to the Second Team All-Southland as the conference announced its beach volleyball all-conference teams on Apr. 21.
The recognition comes after a strong season for the Sieling sisters, who joined New Orleans Privateers this year. Their performance included an overall record of 18-10 and a 5-1 mark in designated Southland matches. The pair also achieved an 11-match winning streak, which was the longest by any Privateer beach duo since 2022.
During the Southland Mid-Conference event, Cassie and Ellie won three out of four matches, including a close victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s top pair—Kristin Bobay and Madison Morrow—who were later named Southland Pair of the Year. The match ended with scores of 21-13, 19-21, and 16-14 in Youngsville on Mar. 21. They also secured wins against McNeese’s leading pair Kendall Osgood and McKenzie Moore twice, as well as Southeastern’s Mia Sauers and Gabriela Hrubanova twice in non-conference play.
Their winning streak began on Mar. 21 and lasted through Apr. 11, with eight out of those eleven victories coming without needing a third set to decide the outcome. Notably, all eighteen wins came at flight one—the top spot—which marks the most victories at that position for New Orleans since Ania Esarte and Maria Ozaeta recorded twenty-one wins there in 2023.
The contributions from Cassie and Ellie played a significant role in improving New Orleans’ team results this season; their individual match win percentage increased by sixteen points compared to last year, resulting in seven more match wins than during the previous season.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept all major conference honors this year—including Pair of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year—while New Orleans prepares to begin tournament play against HCU on Wednesday morning at nine o’clock.
