The City of New Orleans announced on April 28 that the deadline for renewing Non-Short Term Rental (NSTR) licenses is approaching. License holders must submit their renewal applications before 11:59 p.m. on May 2, or risk losing their NSTR license and having to reapply in the next lottery if their square remains available.

This reminder is important for all current NSTR license holders, as all issued licenses are set to expire on June 30. The city said renewal options should now be visible in each permit holder’s One Stop App account, and those who do not see this option are encouraged to contact the One Stop App Help Desk.

Permitholders who remain in good standing with the Department of Safety and Permits will be eligible to apply for renewal. However, “NSTR License holders whose licenses have been revoked or rescinded are not eligible for renewal.” The city also said that failure to renew by the deadline will make a square eligible for participation in the next quarterly lottery, if applicable.

During this period, properties may be subject to inspection. The announcement stated: “You must respond to any requests for inspection within 72 hours of the request.” Owners may avoid an inspection by voluntarily forfeiting their NSTR license, which would then be considered revoked.

Additionally, under the Healthy Homes ordinance, all rental dwelling units—including short-term rentals—must be registered and obtain a Certificate of Compliance. The city emphasized that failure to register with Healthy Homes will result in denial of a renewal application. Registration can be completed online through the One Stop App.

Questions regarding renewals or inspections can be directed to relevant sections within city ordinances or by contacting the Short-Term Rental Office.
