Lise Coetzee won the 200-yard freestyle event on Thursday, leading Tulane’s efforts on the second day of the American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Her time of 1:46.77 was a personal record and earned her both a gold medal and 32 points for her team. This marks Coetzee’s second consecutive day medaling at the championships.
Tulane moved up to fifth place overall with a total of 459 points after Thursday’s events. The team recorded seven top-10 finishes across individual and relay events, with 13 athletes contributing to the scoring.
In addition to Coetzee’s win, Rafaela Sumida placed ninth in the 200 free (1:49.09), earning 20 points, while Phoebe Johnson finished tenth with a lifetime best of 1:50.08 for 16 points. Sydney Mullin added one point by placing twenty-fourth with her season-best time of 1:52.68.
Andrea Zeebe posted a personal best of 4:16.99 in the 400 IM, finishing fifth and collecting 25 points for Tulane. Gwen Shahboz came in twelfth (4:23.39) for fifteen points; Danielle Barberie took fourteenth (4:25.14) for thirteen points; and Mary Kate Kupsky placed nineteenth (3:26.67) to earn six points.
Eliza Lennox secured tenth place in the 100 butterfly (54.22), bringing in seventeen points, while Olcaytu Hatipoglu placed eighteenth (55.41) for seven points.
On the diving board, Libby Brewer scored seventh place in the one-meter dive with a score of 249.75, which contributed twenty-three team points.
Tulane also competed in two relay events Thursday night; their squad of Eliza Lennox, Nicole Fant, Rafaela Sumida and Marin Shimkus took seventh place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:32.36—earning forty-six team points—and another group comprised of Andrea Zeebe, Ebba Holgersson, Eliza Lennox and Lise Coetzee finished seventh in the 400 free relay at 3:41.51 for an additional forty-six team points.
The competition continues Friday with preliminaries starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by swim finals at 5 p.m., and three-meter diving scheduled between those sessions.
