Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address a range of issues including medication abortion access, teacher appreciation, and voting rights.
On May 5, 2026, Carter commented on an upcoming Supreme Court decision regarding medication abortion. He stated, “#SCOTUS will soon decide whether to allow extremist attacks on medication abortion or to uphold basic health care rights. Louisianians and patients nationwide deserve to have their access to medication determined by sound scientific data. No state, court, or judge should wield”.
The following day, May 6, he recognized educators in his district during Teacher Appreciation Week with the message: “Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to the brilliant educators of #LA02! Your hard work and mentorship of the next generation are invaluable to our community.”
Later that same day, Carter addressed concerns about voting rights after the Louisiana V. Callais case. He wrote: “In the aftermath of Louisiana V. Callais, the right to vote is under attack. And not just in Louisiana, but across the country. Join me on May 11th for the first in a series of town halls to talk about protecting the cornerstone of democracy — voting.”
Troy Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. Before his current role in Congress, he served in both the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and the Louisiana Senate from 2016 to 2021. Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there today; he graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986.
