Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing issues ranging from major sporting events to LGBTQI+ rights and immigration policy.

On October 5, 2025, Carter announced New Orleans’ selection as host for a significant college football event: “Big news, #LA02: @CityOfNOLA has been selected to host the 2028 College Football Playoff National Championship! This will be great for our economy and showcase the culture and hospitality that make New Orleans second to none. @CFBPlayoff”.

Two days later, on October 7, he commented on conversion therapy and LGBTQI+ rights: “Being LGBTQI+ isn’t a disease & it’s  not something that a therapist should be trying to ‘fix.’ Conversion therapy is opposed by every major medical association in the U.S., and today I’m again calling on #SCOTUS to protect young people & uphold states’ bans on these cruel,”.

Later that day, Carter addressed health coverage for undocumented immigrants under current federal law: “Did you know that undocumented immigrants are prohibited from receiving health coverage under the ACA, Medicare, and Medicaid? Nothing in Democrats’ alternative Continuing Resolution government funding bill changes that. Instead, we’re focused on fixing the Republican-created”.

Carter has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. He previously held seats in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter continues to reside there and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana (Fact 1, Fact 2, Fact 3, Fact 4).
