Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on social media on August 9 and 10, 2025, addressing issues ranging from personal wisdom to federal policy and the importance of institutional accountability.

On August 9, Carter posted a reflection referencing Proverbs: “My grandma used to say, if you dig a hole or trap for somebody else, make sure you dig one for yourself — ‘cause the Good Book says in Proverbs 26:27, whoever digs a pit will fall in it!” (August 9, 2025).

Later that day, he commented on changes affecting federal employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA): “Our veterans rely on the services that @DeptVetAffairs provides. Now, Trump is stripping collective bargaining rights from hundreds of thousands of federal employees at the VA. This is an attack on both our civil servants and our veterans and it’s unacceptable.  @AFGENational” (August 9, 2025).

On August 10, Carter invoked James Madison to emphasize the need for robust democratic institutions: “As James Madison warned, ‘Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm.’ We cannot depend on a single leader to always do what’s right for everyone. That’s why we have strong institutions, fair laws, and engaged citizens to hold leaders accountable. Good government is not” (August 10, 2025).

Troy Carter has served as Louisiana’s representative in Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021. He previously held positions in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature and was born and raised in New Orleans. Carter graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986.
