Troy A. Carter, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, recently shared his views on various pressing issues through a series of tweets. Congressman Carter has been serving since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond and has previously held positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.

On March 18, 2025, Congressman Carter tweeted about fascism, describing it as “a far-right, authoritarian political system that prioritizes absolute power, nationalism, and control over individual freedoms.” He further noted that this system often suppresses opposition and controls media to maintain power.

Later that day, he addressed Louisiana’s impending execution plans in another tweet. He expressed his stance by stating “While I firmly believe in justice, I do not support cruel and unusual punishment.” He highlighted that nearly half of the state’s capital punishment cases have been overturned in court.

In the evening of March 18th, Congressman Carter announced an upcoming town hall meeting via Twitter to discuss proposed Medicaid cuts. He invited constituents to join the livestream by tweeting “Tonight I’m hosting an in-person town hall to address the dangerous Medicaid cuts proposed by Musk, Trump and Congressional Republicans.”
