Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his social media account over the weekend highlighting local achievements and expressing criticism of national policy decisions.

On April 11, 2026, Carter extended support to university teams participating in an academic competition, stating: “Good luck to @du1869 and @SouthernU_BR as they compete in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge National Championship Tournament this weekend! This incredible competition challenges top HBCU scholars to showcase their knowledge, leadership, and teamwork, all while competing for a”.

Later that day, he commented on federal budget proposals under former President Donald Trump: “Trump’s new budget raises the cost of housing, energy bills, and more. And why? So he can spend even more money on his reckless war in Iran. YOU DESERVE BETTER.”

On April 12, 2026, Carter celebrated a community milestone: “Happy 100th birthday to Elder Robert P. Martin, Sr.! He is a beloved member of #LA02, and it was an honor to attend his birthday celebration and honor a century of life, love, and legacy.”

Troy Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and served in the Louisiana Senate from 2016 to 2021. Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there. He earned his BA from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986.
