Carter, who succeeded Cedric Richmond in Congress, has been actively involved in various discussions and commemorations pertinent to his community and the broader American society.
On July 8, 2025, Congressman Carter issued a reminder through his Twitter account. The tweet did not specify details but served as a prompt for followers to take note of an unspecified matter.
Later that day, at the Essence Festival, Congressman Carter participated in a discussion with other influential Black men. He tweeted about this engagement on July 8, 2025, stating: “During @essencefest, I joined a group of influential Black men for a candid conversation about how we can support one another, uplift women—especially Black women—and break the stigma and misinformation being spread to our young men. The only way forward is through honest”. This gathering aimed to address ways to support each other within the community and combat misinformation affecting young men.
On July 9, 2025, Congressman Carter reflected on the historical significance of the 14th Amendment’s ratification anniversary. In his tweet he remarked: “It’s been 157 years since the #14thAmendment was ratified, granting citizenship to Black Americans, establishing #DueProcess, and extending the Bill of Rights to the states. As we reflect on this historic amendment and continue the fight to protect the birthright citizenship it”. This message underscored ongoing efforts to safeguard birthright citizenship as enshrined by this pivotal amendment.
Troy Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and currently resides there. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986. Before serving in Congress, he held positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives (1992-1994) and Senate (2016-2021).
