Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd District, has been an active voice on healthcare and public service issues since taking office in 2021. His recent social media activity highlighted several key initiatives and concerns.
On May 2, 2025, Congressman Carter expressed pride in collaborating with fellow lawmakers Pramila Jayapal, Debbie Dingell, and Bernie Sanders in reintroducing the Medicare for All bill. The congressman emphasized the importance of transforming America’s healthcare system, declaring, “No family should ever be forced to choose between getting the care they need and putting food on the table. While Trump prioritizes Big.”
Later that same day, Congressman Carter addressed the termination of AmeriCorps programs, stating in a tweet that the decision was “more than a bureaucratic budget cut — it’s a betrayal of service, community, and compassion.” He mentioned the significant challenges faced by Louisiana in dealing with natural disasters and economic issues, which these programs often help mitigate.
On May 3, Carter turned his attention to public broadcasting, highlighting the importance of PBS and NPR. In his commentary, he lauded these institutions as “national treasures — not political pawns!” He emphasized their role in providing education and trusted news and criticized efforts by former President Trump to cut their funding. Carter concluded with a call to “protect public media from his attacks.”
Troy Carter, a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, has served in various political roles, including as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate before his current tenure in Congress.
