Councilmember Aimee McCarron announced on May 14 that she will host a rescheduled “Light the Night” community walk in the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood on Monday, May 18. The event aims to identify streetlights that have been out for a significant period and highlight areas where additional lighting could improve public safety and visibility.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by city officials to address streetlight infrastructure issues across New Orleans. This work aligns with Mayor Helena Moreno’s administration’s broader goals to enhance safety, responsiveness, and quality of life for residents.

The event will allow community members to engage directly with city officials, observe conditions firsthand, and discuss strategies for improving streetlight maintenance and expansion. City officials and community leaders are expected to attend.

McCarron’s previous Light the Night event in Hollygrove identified nearly 30 infrastructure issues, including broken utility poles and damaged sidewalks. These problems were reported to the appropriate department, resulting in many repairs being completed while her office continues follow-up on outstanding concerns.

“We hope you will join us as we work together to shine a light on this important issue for Hollygrove-Dixon and communities across the city,” said McCarron.

The walk is scheduled for Monday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m., starting at the New Orleans Job Corps Center located at 8825 Airline Hwy., New Orleans. Participants are encouraged to bring flashlights.
