Councilmember Eugene Green praised the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office on April 7 for its role in shutting down a drug operation at Fat’s Car Wash in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. The action was carried out with support from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
The car wash is located near St. Augustine High School’s football practice field and close to Life of Christ Christian Academy and Magical Moments Learning Center. The proximity to these educational institutions raised concerns about community safety.
“The people whose lives were negatively affected by the sale and consumption of dangerous drugs deserve the support,” Councilmember Green said. “The young men of St. Augustine High School who practice band and football across the street deserve safety. The neighbors who have invested in their property and community deserve respect for their safety and lives. The people who shop at the nearby restaurant and grocery store, the drug store, and the bakery deserve a safer environment.”
Green credited District Attorney Jason Williams for leading efforts to close down the facility, noting that owners were allegedly involved in making, packing, and selling drugs at that location.
“The Office of the District Attorney, the New Orleans Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Louisiana State Police, and other partners involved with this operation are to be commended for the cooperative work,” Green said. “Public safety in our community deserves motivated and focused work on the part of those entrusted with creating safer communities. The community is stronger today because of the success of this operation.” He described it as an important day for crime-fighting efforts in New Orleans.
Green concluded by stating that this action should deter future criminal activity: “This should serve as a warning to law breakers that if you do these types of things you will be caught and prosecuted.”
