Fantini clinches decisive win as Tulane women’s tennis opens Goldring Tennis Center

Tulane University’s women’s tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over UTSA on Friday in the first match held at the new Goldring Tennis Center. The contest was decided by Natalia Fantini, who came from behind in the third set of her No. 6 singles match to defeat Laia Tarazona Peyro 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

The Green Wave’s overall record improved to 4-5 with the win, while UTSA dropped to 4-4.

Tulane claimed two additional singles matches: Summer Chandler won at No. 2 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-4 against Natalia Castaneda, and Natalia Perez earned a straight-set victory at No. 4, defeating Aoka Nagasawa 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles play, Fantini and Perez teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles (6-3) against Celine Absawi and Laia Tarazona Peyro. At No. 2 doubles, Micah Pierce and Campbell Ricci also won their match with a score of 6-3 over Aoka Nagasawa and Akari Tomoyose.

The Green Wave will next host South Florida on Sunday at noon. South Florida currently holds a record of 2-4 and is scheduled to face UTSA on Saturday morning.
