Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, recently shared his thoughts on social media regarding national observances and personal reflections. Carter, who has been serving in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Cedric Richmond, also has a history of service in the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate.
On June 14, 2025, Congressman Carter commemorated Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary by acknowledging those who have served and sacrificed for freedom. He emphasized that leadership should prioritize veterans over personal interests, tagging President Biden in his message. “On #FlagDay and the @USArmy 250th, we honor those who served and sacrificed for our freedom. Leadership should serve veterans — not personal vanity,” he stated. Carter expressed pride in standing with the City of New Orleans to thank thousands gathered at Washington Artillery Park despite challenging weather conditions.
The following day, June 15, Carter reflected on Father’s Day with a poignant statement about fatherhood. He remarked that merely having a child does not define one as a father; rather it is the love, sacrifice, and presence that truly characterize fatherhood. “Having a child no more makes you a father than having an airplane makes you a pilot,” he noted while expressing his joy in being a father to his sons Troy and Joshua.
In another post on June 15, Congressman Carter extended Father’s Day wishes to fathers and father figures within Louisiana’s 2nd district (#LA02). He highlighted the significance of this role from his perspective as a father of two boys. Additionally, he acknowledged Men’s Health Month by encouraging men to focus on their health to ensure they can support their families long-term. “Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures in #LA02! As a dad of two boys…”
Born in New Orleans in 1963, Troy Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986. He continues to reside in New Orleans while serving his constituents.
