The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team lost 5-2 to the Omaha Mavericks on March 14 at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The match began with a closely contested doubles round. Anthony Scheglowski and Liam Spiers of Omaha won at flight two, while Ethan Gaubert and Bryan Kuntz clinched the doubles point for Omaha after winning a tiebreak at flight three. Carlos Melgosa and Beltran Fernandez were also in a tiebreak but their match went unfinished after they rallied from behind.

In singles play, Caleb Peterson gave Omaha its first singles point with a straight sets win at flight six. Kuntz followed with another victory for the Mavericks at flight one. The Privateers got on the board when Beltran Fernandez defeated Christian Trevey in straight sets.

Several matches extended over two hours and required three sets to determine a winner. Spiers secured the clinching point for Omaha by coming back from a set down, while Maddox Lundell added another point for the Mavericks after taking his third set decisively.

Jerall Yasin earned the final point for New Orleans by rallying from a set down to defeat Pavan Uppu in three sets at flight four. The Privateers will next face LSU on Sunday afternoon.
