Florida Atlantic defeats Tulane men’s tennis in home opener

Tulane University’s men’s tennis team lost its home opener to Florida Atlantic University on Thursday at the Goldring Tennis Center. The final score was 6-1 in favor of the Owls, bringing FAU’s record to 5-5 and Tulane’s to 3-6.

Piotr Andrzejewski earned Tulane’s only point with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Jan Kusy 6-3, 6-1.

Florida Atlantic secured the doubles point after winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches by identical scores of 6-4. The third doubles match was unfinished, with Tulane leading 6-5.

In singles play, FAU took five of six matches. Mark Havilicek beat Daniel Phillips at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-3), Segundo Goity Zapico defeated Hady ElKordy (6-3, 6-3), Marek Pazdera won against Asaf Friedler (7-6 [6], 6-3), Simon Myslivec overcame Alec Gaudin (6-2, 6-3), and Luca Miremont topped Andres Delgadillo (6-3, 6-2).

Tulane will host South Alabama for its next match on Saturday at 1 p.m., facing a Jaguars team that holds a season record of 4-5.
