FOIA Request to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans on June 16, 2025. The request, sent by Nola Reporter in conjunction with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, seeks detailed information about Chinese National students enrolled at the university.

The request outlines four specific areas of interest. Firstly, it asks for documents or lists that show all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, the request asks for a total number of these students and a breakdown by department.

Secondly, the request seeks information on scholarships received by Chinese National students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Additionally, it requests details on any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Thirdly, if not already covered in the previous request, it asks for a list of recipients of scholarships granted by entities affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Lastly, the FOIA request calls for any policies or procedures detailing how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

The requester has indicated that they are seeking this information as part of their role in gathering and reporting news to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency. They have also requested a fee waiver based on their status as media professionals.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
