The University of New Orleans announced on May 8 that 45 former and current student-athletes and staff members received their degrees during a ceremony held at Lakefront Arena. The event was presided over by University President Dr. Kathy Johnson.

The announcement highlights the academic achievements across several athletic programs, with baseball leading the group with 11 graduates in fields such as interdisciplinary studies, urban construction management, mathematics, business administration, public health studies, and more. Beach volleyball had four graduates earning degrees in marketing, biological sciences, political science, and finance.

Women’s basketball saw six graduates with degrees ranging from interdisciplinary studies to psychology and human performance. Among them was Aaliyah Ellis who earned her master’s degree. Gabbi Cartagena, a former women’s basketball player now serving as an athletic department graduate assistant, received her Master of Business Administration.

Other sports represented included golf—with four graduates—volleyball—with four as well—men’s basketball with two graduates in interdisciplinary studies and management respectively; track and field/cross country with two; women’s tennis with one; seven members from the POM squad earning various degrees; and Jace Phelan who competed in both baseball and track/field receiving his degree in naval architecture and marine engineering.

University officials encouraged continued engagement through their newsletter subscription service for athletics news updates as well as social media channels including Twitter (@UNOPrivateers), Instagram (@UNOPrivateers), Facebook (/UNOPrivateers), and YouTube (PrivateerAthletics).
