Sophomore Francesca Pompa led the Tulane women’s golf team on April 6 during the first day of competition at the Huntington Bank Collegiate in Dallas, Texas. The Green Wave finished the day in ninth place out of 17 teams after posting a combined score of 584 (+8) through two rounds at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The tournament is significant as it brings together collegiate teams to compete and measure their progress mid-season. It also provides an opportunity for individual players to showcase their skills and improve their standings.
Tulane started strong with a team score of 291 (+3) in the opening round, which put them tied for seventh overall. In the second round, they recorded a score of 293 (+5), moving into ninth place by day’s end. Pompa was Tulane’s top performer, finishing tied for 25th overall with an even-par total of 144 over two rounds. She opened with a one-under-par 71 that placed her tied for seventh after round one and followed up with a one-over-par 73 in round two. Pompa also made eight birdies across both rounds, leading her team and tying for seventeenth among all competitors.
Other contributors included Sophia Chen and Sophia Macias, who were both tied for fifty-first place at four-over-par (148). Chen shot rounds of seventy-three and seventy-five while collecting seven birdies; Macias posted scores of seventy-five and seventy-three, also making seven birdies each. Cristina Albertazzi and Gabriella Gilrowski rounded out Tulane’s lineup by tying for sixtieth place at six-over-par (150). Albertazzi improved from a first-round seventy-eight to an even-par seventy-two in round two; Gilrowski began with an even-par seventy-two before closing with a seventy-eight.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round beginning at 8:30 a.m., using a shotgun start format.
