Tulane University’s men’s tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 victory against UTSA on Friday in San Antonio. The win came after Asaf Friedler overcame a first set loss to defeat Enzo Vargas at No. 2 singles, with scores of 2-6, 6-1, and a 7-4 tiebreaker in the third set.
The Green Wave started the match by taking the doubles point. Lance Nisbet and Daniel Phillips won at No. 1 doubles, while Piotr Andrzejewski and Friedler claimed victory at No. 3. The match at No. 2 doubles was unfinished.
In singles play, Andrzejewski achieved a decisive win at No. 4 with two sets of 6-0. Alec Gaudin contributed another point for Tulane by defeating Timeo Bretin at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-3, 2-6, and 6-2.
Tulane’s overall record now stands at 2-2 this season, while UTSA remains winless at 0-6.
The team is scheduled to play its next match against UNO on Sunday, February 22 at City Park Tennis Center.
