Keldrick Turner advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA East Regional after finishing third in his heat during the 400-meter dash on May 27. Turner ran a time of 45.854 seconds, marking only the second time in University of New Orleans history that an athlete has completed the event in under 46 seconds.
Turner automatically qualified for Friday’s quarterfinals by outperforming competitors from Mississippi State, Ohio State, Clemson, and South Carolina. His time ranked him 24th among the 48 participants competing on Wednesday evening. Turner now holds the top four fastest times in program history for the event and is responsible for two of this season’s four sub-46-second performances in the Southland Conference. The other two such marks belong to William Achee and Charlie Bartholomew from Northwestern State University.
In other results, Yoran Kabengele-Kabala finished eighth in his heat and placed 44th overall with a time of 10.54 seconds during the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash. Kabengele-Kabala will compete again on Friday as part of New Orleans’ 4×100-meter relay team.
Looking ahead, Daryl Bachmann and Olamipo Ladipo will join Kabengele-Kabala and Turner for Friday afternoon’s relay quarterfinal at 4 p.m., while Turner’s individual quarterfinal race is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. Both events offer athletes a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
