The New Orleans Privateers lost 20-1 to the Lamar Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field, as Lamar secured the weekend baseball series after dropping the opener. The game took place on Apr. 26 and saw Lamar take a commanding lead early in the contest.

The outcome is significant for both teams, with Lamar bouncing back from an initial loss in the series and setting a new record for largest run differential between these two programs.

Lamar started strong with seven runs in the first inning, including a two-run double by A.J. Taylor and a three-run home run from Brayden Evans. Taylor continued his offensive performance with another home run in the second inning, bringing his total RBI count to five for the day. Starting pitcher Travis Lutz provided six innings of work for Lamar, allowing only one run on five hits.

New Orleans scored its only run in the second inning after three consecutive singles, capped by Josh Hoffmann driving in Dathan Cummings. However, Lamar extended their lead further with additional runs throughout the game, including two more in the fifth and six more in the seventh inning.

Taylor finished 5-for-5 at bat while teammates Tab Tracy and Balin Valentine also contributed multiple hits and runs. For New Orleans, Dylan Biddick and Kruise Newman each recorded one hit out of three at-bats; Cummings, Hoffmann, and Eli Tidwell also had one hit each.

Looking ahead, New Orleans will play South Alabama at Maestri Field on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., providing an opportunity to rebound from this defeat.
