The New Orleans Privateers lost to the Lamar Cardinals 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field, after giving up a decisive four-run sixth inning on Apr. 25.
The result split the series between the two teams and highlighted key performances from both sides. The Privateers took an early lead in the third inning when Dylan Biddick hit a two-run home run, his ninth of the season, putting New Orleans ahead 2-1.
However, Lamar responded in the fifth with a two-run homer by Theo Kummer, his second of the weekend. The Cardinals then added four runs in the sixth inning. Lane Sparks led off with a single before Tab Tracy and A.J. Taylor reached base on bunts to load the bases with no outs. Braden Benton drew a walk to bring in one run, followed by Kummer’s two-run single through the left side. Hector Rodriguez scored later in the inning due to a fielder’s choice and throwing error.
Jarret Williams entered as pitcher for Lamar in the fifth and earned his first collegiate win by allowing just two hits over five innings while striking out four batters. Eight of Lamar’s nine starters recorded hits during the game, with Kummer leading offensively with four runs batted in.
For New Orleans, Biddick reached base three times and Kareh Valentin went one-for-three with a run scored. Jack Garvey matched his longest outing of this season by pitching four innings—his sixth multi-inning appearance this year.
