The Tulane women’s track and field team began the 2026 season with several strong performances at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. The event took place at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center on Friday.
Elena Liano-Rengel led Tulane’s efforts by finishing fifth in the 1,000 meters, setting a personal best with a time of 2:50.90. Maria Alduan also competed in the same race and finished 12th with a time of 2:55.19.
Tulane’s distance medley relay team, consisting of Eliza Brand, Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas, Jasper Newton, and Reese Ragland, secured second place with a time of 11:55.49. They finished behind only the host team from Kentucky.
In other events, freshman Zaria Parker qualified for the semifinals in the 60 meters after winning her heat in the preliminaries with a time of 7.56 seconds and placed 20th overall in the semifinals with an identical mark. Bella Carroll ran a time of 7.96 seconds to finish 61st overall in prelims.
Marissa Gordon achieved a top-10 result for Tulane by placing tenth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.32 seconds. In the 200 meters event, Parker recorded a time of 24.72 seconds to finish fourteenth while Carroll placed thirty-fourth at 25.93 seconds.
The competition continues on Saturday where Tulane will participate in four more events: three on track and one field event featuring Sofie Groeninger in shot put at 9:30 a.m., Liano-Rengel and Newton running the mile at 11:00 a.m., Carroll, Parker, Gordon, and Dumonteil Cabanas competing in the 300 meters at 11:20 a.m., followed by Ragland, Brand, and Alduan racing in the 800 meters at 12:35 p.m.
