Luke Lycette was named Southland Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement by the conference office on Apr. 6. The honor comes after Lycette pitched in three high-pressure games that all resulted in wins for the New Orleans Privateers baseball team.
Lycette threw a total of 128 pitches across a midweek game against South Alabama and two weekend matchups with McNeese. During these appearances, he did not allow any runs over 8.2 innings and recorded ten strikeouts.
The week began with a close 2-1 win over South Alabama, where Lycette pitched two scoreless innings to set up Lane Alack’s save opportunity. In Friday’s game against McNeese, he was called upon for a six-out save and struck out two batters over the final two innings, helping secure a 5-2 victory.
Saturday’s series finale saw Lycette deliver again in extra innings after McNeese tied the game in the ninth inning. He allowed just two baserunners over four additional innings while recording seven strikeouts—a new season high for him—and earned his first decision of the season when Eli Tidwell hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the thirteenth inning.
Lycette is now the first Privateer to earn a weekly conference award this season; Grant Edwards was previously honored as Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 31, 2025. The team is scheduled to travel to Southern Miss on Tuesday before heading to Illinois later in the week.
