Matthew Lotz, a junior from Cape Town, achieved his first top-five finish for the University of New Orleans (UNO) at the ASU Spring Invitational earlier this week, according to an April 14 announcement. Lotz completed the tournament with a score of 214 and contributed to the Privateers’ seventh-place team finish after rounds of 289, 300, and 300.
The result marks a significant milestone in Lotz’s career at UNO. He began with a strong opening round of four-under-par (68) and maintained steady play through an even-par final round. Over three rounds in Jonesboro, he recorded eleven birdies and one eagle. This season, Lotz has also achieved two top-20 finishes and one top-10 finish.
Max Feistmantle tied for 25th place with a total score of 222. The senior closed out his tournament by birdying five of his last seven holes after an early bogey in Round Three. Tom Watson and Jude Bourque both finished tied for 56th with scores of 232 each. Taylor Boasberg finished in 58th place as an independent competitor with a score of 233, while Adam Trahan tied for 59th at 234.
Host team Arkansas State won the event by a wide margin with a combined score of 839—38 strokes ahead of second-place HCU. Thomas Schmidt took home individual honors after shooting a total score of 210; five Arkansas State golfers finished under par across their three rounds.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will compete in the Southland Conference Championships from April 20 to April 22 in Kerrville, Texas at Comanche Trace on the Hills and Valley courses. The final round on Wednesday will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
