Miles Curley hit a two-run home run to give the New Orleans Privateers a 12-10 victory over the Nicholls Colonels in the series finale, according to a May 3 announcement. The game was decided in extra innings and featured several lead changes and ties.
The outcome is important for the Privateers as it improved their record to 4-2 in extra inning games this season. The team also demonstrated strong offensive performance, collecting 15 hits and four home runs during the game.
Curley’s go-ahead homer came after Kareh Valentin reached base with an infield single and Evan Rogers avoided a double play. Curley then hit his sixth home run of the year on the first pitch from Cole Poirrier. Luke Lycette closed out the game by retiring all three batters he faced in order, including striking out Logan Terry and inducing a groundout from Jaxon Milam before Eli Tidwell made a sliding catch for the final out.
Lycette allowed just one run on three hits over five innings and recorded four strikeouts for his fourth win of the season. Dylan Biddick contributed with a home run on his first pitch at bat and finished just short of hitting for the cycle. Rogers had three hits, stole three bases—becoming the first Privateer since Jay Robinson in 2017 to do so—and helped lead six total stolen bases by New Orleans.
The game’s momentum shifted multiple times as both teams traded leads. After losing their advantage when Nicholls scored four runs in the fifth inning, New Orleans responded quickly with key hits from Curley, Kruise Newman, and Tidwell—who homered off the scoreboard—to regain control. Despite another rally by Nicholls that tied it at ten after Keegan Giger’s solo homer, it was ultimately Curley’s late-game effort that secured victory for New Orleans.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will face Louisiana on Tuesday night in Lafayette with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
