The City of New Orleans announced on April 15 that the renewal period for all issued Non-Owner Occupied Short-Term Rental (NSTR) licenses will begin on April 19, with current licenses set to expire on June 30, 2026. License holders in good standing with the Department of Safety and Permits will be eligible to apply for renewal through their One Stop App account.
This announcement is important for property owners who wish to continue operating short-term rentals in New Orleans. Timely renewal is necessary to avoid losing eligibility, as those who do not renew by the deadline may have their properties entered into a quarterly lottery if applicable.
According to city guidelines, NSTR license holders whose licenses have been revoked or rescinded are not eligible for renewal. The city also notes that during the renewal period, properties may be subject to inspection and owners must respond within 72 hours of any request. Owners can avoid an inspection by voluntarily forfeiting their NSTR license, which would then be considered revoked.
The Healthy Homes ordinance requires all rental dwelling units—including short-term rentals—to register and obtain a Certificate of Compliance before renting long-term or short-term. Failure to register with Healthy Homes will result in denial of the renewal application. Registration can be completed online via the One Stop App.
Questions about renewals should refer to Sec.26-625 regarding permit issuance and departmental determination, while questions about inspections should refer to Sec.26-624 concerning departmental authority. For more information about the Healthy Homes program or specific aspects of the NSTR license process, residents are encouraged to contact the Short-Term Rental Office.
