The City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways announced on April 14 that it is now accepting applications for its 2026 Tree Planting Grants program, which will provide $146,500 in funding to support nonprofit-led tree planting efforts across Orleans Parish.
The initiative aims to restore and expand the city’s urban forest by supporting the planting of 40,000 new trees by 2030. Nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt and located within Orleans Parish are eligible to apply for grant awards ranging from $15,000 to $25,000. The trees must be planted on public property in accordance with the specifications and regulations set by the Department of Parks and Parkways.
According to the announcement, the Greater New Orleans Foundation will administer the grant program. The foundation will oversee both application processing and distribution of funds.
Interested organizations can find more details about eligibility requirements and apply online at gnof.org/program/parks-and-parkways. Additional information is available through contacting grants@gnof.org.
This grant program represents a continued effort by city officials to increase green space throughout New Orleans while engaging local nonprofits in environmental improvement projects.
