The New Orleans Privateers baseball team is set to open its home schedule this weekend with the inaugural Maestri Classic, hosting Alabama A&M, Northern Kentucky, and ULM. The games will begin at 4 p.m., and coverage will be available on ESPN+.
The Privateers secured their first win of the season on Wednesday night with a 14-5 victory over Southern. The team hit three home runs and drew 17 walks during the game. Miles Curley led the offense by driving in four runs, bringing his RBI total to six across the first four games of the season. Curley has played at third base, first base, and right field so far this year.
In Wednesday’s game against Southern, New Orleans used nine pitchers for one inning each. Over the course of the early season, 22 different pitchers have appeared for the Privateers. Rex Henderson, Ethan Hunt, Brock Hill, Logan Waldschmidt, and Josh Hoffmann all made their season debuts on Wednesday.
William Andrade will start Friday’s game against Alabama A&M after pitching 3.1 innings in relief last Saturday. Andrade is noted as “the first freshman to start a season opener at New Orleans since Steven Swift got the Opening Day nod in 2019.” He recorded six strikeouts against Georgia State last weekend.
Last time New Orleans faced Alabama A&M was in a three-game series in 2024 where they swept with two run rule victories and outscored them 42-10. Against ULM, New Orleans holds an all-time record of 31-29 but has never played Northern Kentucky before.
Alabama A&M enters the tournament after being picked to finish tenth in the SWAC preseason poll and starting their season with four losses. Tarris Murray leads their offense with six hits and four RBIs.
Northern Kentucky was projected third in the Horizon League preseason poll; players Shawn Parnell and Logan Wilson were named to the Preseason NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List. The team won its most recent series finale against South Carolina.
ULM currently holds a 2-3 record after splitting a series with Central Arkansas and losing to Northwestern State midweek. The Warhawks are batting .328 as a team through five games this season.
