The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team finished their regular season with a 3-2 victory against the University of Louisiana Monroe at the NOLA Classic, hosted by Tulane at White Sands, according to an April 18 announcement.
This result is significant as it concludes a challenging weekend for the Privateers, who had lost their previous four matches. The win provides momentum as they head into postseason play.
The Privateers secured wins in flights two, four, and five. Brooke Dow and Ashley Salazar won by forfeit after a ULM player was unable to continue due to illness. Kylie Lyons and Mona Salgado claimed a straight-set victory in flight four with scores of 21-14 and 21-16. In flight five, Sadie Elliott and Shaylee Swartzendruber also won in straight sets after edging out their opponents in the first set, finishing 21-19, 21-16.
Earlier in the weekend, Dow and Salazar took the opening set against Southern Miss but were ultimately defeated as Abby Lewis and Zuzanna Michalska rallied back to win in three sets. The Sieling sisters saw their eleven-match winning streak end during a close match against Tulane’s top pair that went to extra rallies before ending in favor of Tulane.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will compete next at the Southland Tournament in Corpus Christi. They are scheduled to face HCU in the first round on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
