The New Orleans Privateers women’s beach volleyball team finished their Southland Mid-Conference weekend with a victory against Nicholls, following close matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and HCU at Sugar Beach in Youngsville on March 22.
The Privateers began the event facing McNeese, where Lucianna Alexander and Renata Dykstra secured a win in flight four. Despite their efforts, McNeese won the overall match 4-1. The pair of Alexander and Dykstra managed to pull away late in both sets for a 21-19, 21-19 result. However, McNeese took the other four flights, including a three-set contest at flight two.
In their next match against defending conference champions Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Privateers narrowly lost 3-2. Alexander and Dykstra again delivered a comeback victory after dropping the first set, winning the third set 15-11. Cassie and Ellie Sieling also contributed with a three-set win at flight one. The Islanders claimed the remaining matches in straight sets.
Day two saw another close contest as New Orleans fell to HCU by a score of 3-2. Mona Salgado and Kylie Lyons provided a key win at flight four after taking the deciding set 15-12. The Sieling sisters controlled their match throughout for another straight-set victory. However, HCU’s pair Claudia Verdejo and Dariya Tlevlessova rallied from behind to clinch flight five for the Huskies.
The Privateers concluded their weekend by defeating Nicholls 3-2, earning wins in flights one through three—all in straight sets. The Sieling sisters notched their third win of the weekend while Brooke Dow and Ashley Salazar added another victory at flight two. Alexander and Dykstra completed an undefeated weekend together with another straight-set triumph.
Looking ahead, New Orleans will face Nicholls again next Friday during the Bayou Beach Battle starting at noon.
