The New Orleans Privateers women’s beach volleyball team is set to compete in the Cowgirl Beach Bash in Lake Charles on Friday and Saturday. The event will take place at South Beach, where the Privateers are scheduled to play four matches.
Last weekend, New Orleans faced a challenging start to their season at the Green Wave Invitational, finishing with an 0-4 record. Despite not securing a win, the team remained competitive against strong opponents, including South Florida and Oregon, both of whom were just outside the preseason AVCA poll rankings.
The team’s top two pairs each collected two victories over the opening weekend. Ashley Salazar and Brooke Dow secured wins against Oregon and Spring Hill while competing at flight two. They also extended their match against South Florida’s flight two pair to three sets with extra rallies.
Cassie and Ellie Sieling debuted as the flight one pair and went undefeated on their first day of competition. The twin sisters dominated in their second set for a 21-19, 21-11 victory over South Florida’s top pair before following up with a straight-set win against Spring Hill.
New Orleans will begin its participation in the Cowgirl Beach Bash with its first conference match against Stephen F. Austin on Friday morning. Later that day, they will face Mary-Hardin Baylor before playing Texas A&M-Kingsville and McNeese on Saturday. Of note, although New Orleans will play McNeese three times this season, only one matchup—scheduled for the Southland Mid-Conference in March—will count toward conference standings.
