The New Orleans Privateers defeated the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 7-4 on May 9 at Maestri Field, completing a series sweep. The team now awaits the outcome of a suspended game between Lamar and Houston Christian University scheduled for Sunday.

This win keeps the Privateers’ postseason hopes alive, depending on results from other conference games. The team took an early lead with Owen Smith’s solo home run, but the Islanders responded with three runs to move ahead. Kruise Newman then tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-run homer.

New Orleans regained control in the fifth when Newman’s infield single put them up 4-3. The offense continued to produce as Dathan Cummings hit an RBI double and Jayden Adcox singled through the right side in the sixth inning, extending their lead. Eli Tidwell added another run with an RBI single in the seventh.

Pitcher Bryson Goff earned his sixth win of the season by allowing two earned runs over six innings and tying his season-high with seven strikeouts. William Andrade pitched two innings without allowing a hit or an earned run, while Skylar Jones closed out the game for his first save of the year by retiring all three batters he faced in order.

Newman finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Curley and Evan Rogers also contributed two hits each. Smith went 2-for-3 and scored twice as part of a balanced offensive effort. According to team statistics provided after the game, Andrade and Jones did not allow any hits over their combined final three innings pitched.
