The New Orleans Privateers women’s beach volleyball team secured a win against Southeastern during the Pontchartrain Beach Bash at Privateer Beach Courts, improving their Southland Conference record to 2-0.

Key performances included Lucianna Alexander and Renata Dykstra overcoming an initial set loss to win their match in three sets. After losing the first set 21-18, they came back strong in the third, winning 15-12 following a crucial run after the side switch.

Brooke Dow and Ashley Salazar also delivered a three-set victory. They won their first set 21-18, dropped the second 21-14 to Southeastern’s Maggie Paiva and Mia McKinney, but responded by taking the deciding set 15-10.

Cassie and Ellie Sieling contributed with a straight-set win at flight one. The sisters closed out their match with an 8-3 run in the second set for scores of 21-17 and 21-18, marking their first victory over Southeastern since last year.

Despite two losses to College of Charleston during the event, several matches were closely contested. Dow and Salazar claimed New Orleans’ only point against Charleston on Friday after rallying from a set down to win in three sets: 18-21, 25-23, and 15-12. Sadie Elliott and Shaylee Swartzendruber also extended their match to three sets. The Sieling twins were competing in a third set when play concluded.

On Saturday, Cassie and Ellie Sieling earned another win over College of Charleston with scores of 21-18 and 21-17.

Against McNeese, New Orleans lost by a score of 4-1. The Sielings recorded the team’s sole point with a three-set victory over Kendall Osgood and Kenzie Moore; both opening sets required extra rallies before they secured the third set decisively at 15-7.

The Privateers are scheduled to compete next at the Southland Mid-Conference tournament in Houston starting March 21.
