The New Orleans Privateers lost to the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Cardinals by a score of 13-1 on Mar. 14 at Maestri Field. The Privateers managed only four hits and fell behind early after two errors led to three runs for the Cardinals in the second inning.

This result is significant as it marks a challenging outing for the Privateers, who struggled both offensively and defensively throughout the contest.

Trent Rucker drove in the first run for UIW with a sacrifice fly, followed by RBI singles from Preston Newberry and Cole Tabor that gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. The Privateers responded in their half of the second inning when Evan Rogers was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Kruise Newman’s single, and scored on Jayden Adcox’s fielder’s choice. However, this would be their only run of the game.

The Cardinals extended their lead with a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Colin Cymbalista, Tyler Garritano, and Drake Anderson. In the bottom of the fifth, New Orleans loaded the bases with one out but could not capitalize as Hayden Capers induced an inning-ending double play. UIW added two more runs in the eighth and finished with home runs from Tabor and Cymbalista in the ninth.

Capers pitched six innings for UIW and earned his first win of the season while his team collected 15 hits overall. For New Orleans, Riley Marcotte made his first start of the season on the mound, pitching four innings. Newman, Owen Smith, Eli Tidwell, and Kareh Valentin each recorded a hit; Adrian Dominguez and Dylan Biddick drew two walks apiece.

The series between New Orleans and UIW will conclude Sunday at 1 p.m.
