The University of New Orleans men’s golf team will conclude its regular season with a return to RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas for the ASU Spring Invitational on April 13-14. This marks the team’s second appearance at the course this season, following their participation in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in October.
The tournament is significant as it will be the Privateers’ 19th time competing at RidgePointe Country Club since their first appearance in 1997. The team previously won the ASU Indian Classic there in 2006 and recorded its lowest score at the course two seasons ago with an 855. Individual records include Matthew Lotz’s score of 210 and Tom Watson’s score of 211, both set earlier this season.
The Privateers tied for ninth place at their last outing at RidgePointe six months ago and will field the same starting lineup for this week’s event: Tom Watson, Max Feistmantl, Matthew Lotz, Jude Bourque, and Adam Trahan. Taylor Boasberg will compete as an independent player.
Competition begins Monday with teams playing two rounds (36 holes) followed by one round (18 holes) on Tuesday. The field includes Arkansas State (host), Bradley, Lindenwood, Missouri State, Nicholls, Oral Roberts, Southeastern Louisiana University and Utah Valley. Each school is also expected to send at least one independent golfer.
In recent play at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge earlier this week, Tom Watson achieved his fifth top-20 finish of the season after shooting a total score of 216 over three rounds. The Privateers finished fourteenth overall with a team score of 892.
Weather forecasts predict warm and windy conditions for both days of competition. Monday’s high is expected to reach 83 degrees Fahrenheit with winds from the south-southwest up to 18 mph and gusts reaching up to 38 mph.
