The New Orleans Privateers men’s basketball team is set to complete a four-game road trip with games against Lamar and Stephen F. Austin, scheduled for Saturday and Monday. The Privateers are currently tied for fourth place in the Southland Conference, which would secure them a first-round bye in the upcoming Southland Tournament.
In their previous game, the Privateers secured a 78-64 victory over UIW on Monday night. Four players scored in double figures, and the team shot 51.9 percent from the field. This win improved New Orleans’ record to 6-0 in Monday night games during the 2026 season.
Jakevion Buckley leads the Southland Conference in assists per game with 133 total assists this season, trailing only Gianni Hunt of East Texas A&M, who has 136. Buckley is three assists away from tying for tenth place in single-season assists in program history, matching Gabe Corchiani (1987), Claude Butler (1981), and Duane Reboul (1969).
The Privateers rank first in their conference and sixteenth nationally for free throws attempted, averaging 25.7 attempts per game this season. At this rate, they project to reach 798 attempts by the end of the regular season, which would be sixth most in program history. They are also 67 made free throws away from tying their school record of 585 makes set during the 1987-88 season.
Following their recent win at UIW, New Orleans reached ten conference wins this year—marking only the fifth time since joining the Southland that they have achieved double-digit conference victories. Their highest total came during their championship run in 2016 with a record of 13-5.
Lamar currently sits seventh in the Southland standings with a conference record of 7-11. The Privateers previously defeated Lamar 89-76 earlier this season. Lamar ranks fourth in three-point field goal percentage within the conference; Rob Lee Jr. has converted on 44.2 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
Stephen F. Austin holds a two-game lead over McNeese for first place in the conference standings and recently defeated New Orleans at Lakefront Arena by a score of 84-79 last month. Stephen F. Austin also leads the league defensively, allowing just 65.3 points per game.
