The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over the Southern Jaguars on March 10 at the Privateer Tennis Center, with Jerall Yasin clinching the win in flight six singles.

The match began with strong doubles performances from the Privateers. Carlos Melgosa and Beltran Fernandez won their match 6-3, while Peter Kieslinger and Yasin earned a victory by a double break, giving New Orleans an early lead.

In singles play, Jacob Rouleau-Mailly dominated his opponent Sebastien Byng, conceding only one game. Fernandez also posted a decisive win at flight two against Mpho Lesheole with scores of 6-1, 6-2. The Jaguars got their first point when Zachery Byng won a close tiebreak in the first set and took the second set by a double break.

Yasin sealed the overall victory for New Orleans by breaking serve late and holding on to defeat Emmanuel Oudensi 6-2, 6-3. This marked the team’s eighth win of the season. The Jaguars added another point through Jaime Sigauque’s comeback win in a super tiebreak after dropping the first set.

Melgosa closed out play for New Orleans with a hard-fought second set tiebreak to secure his singles match. The team will next face North Dakota on Thursday at 2 p.m.
