The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team lost 4-0 to the sixth-ranked LSU Tigers on March 15 at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge.

This match was described as the toughest challenge of the season for the Privateers. The defeat came after LSU secured early victories in doubles, with Sasa Markovic and Erik Arutiunian winning 6-2 at flight one, and Alessio Vasquez and Calin Stribu taking a 6-3 win at flight two to claim the first point for the Tigers.

In singles play, Matias Ponce De Leon was first to finish, dropping only two games in his 6-2, 6-0 victory. Markovic also contributed with a straight-set win at flight two, finishing 6-4, 6-1. Vasquez clinched the overall match for LSU by winning his singles contest with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. At the time the match was decided, LSU led in all three remaining singles matches.

LSU improved their record to 19 wins and three losses this season. The Tigers entered this contest having already achieved four ranked wins during their campaign.

The Privateers are scheduled to return home for their next match against New Mexico on Monday at 2 p.m.
