The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team will begin a week of matches with a home contest against the Southern Jaguars at the Privateer Tennis Center, according to a March 9 announcement. The schedule for the rest of the week includes matches against North Dakota on Thursday, Omaha on Saturday, an away match at LSU on Sunday, and a return home to face New Mexico on Monday.

This series of matches comes as the Privateers hold a 7-3 record for the season. In their most recent outing, they lost narrowly to College of Charleston by a score of 4-3. During that match, New Orleans secured the doubles point but could not maintain momentum in singles play. Beltran Fernandez and Carlos Melgosa were responsible for earning singles points for the team.

So far this season, New Orleans has compiled a 39-17 record in singles matches. Melgosa leads with eight victories, primarily competing at flight three and winning seven of those matches in straight sets. Fernandez has achieved seven wins at flight two, with six of his matches going to three sets—including recent wins over Szymon Malecki of Norfolk State and Leon Harder of Charleston.

The last match also saw new doubles pairings: Jacob Rouleau-Mailly teamed up with Gonzalo Cotter for a win at flight one (7-5), while Peter Kieslinger and Jerall Yasin paired together for their first victory at flight three.

Historically, New Orleans has won three matches by 7-0 score lines against Southern since 2004. The team also holds previous victories over North Dakota (2021) and Omaha (2016).
