The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team ended their season with a 4-0 victory over the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex. The women’s team, despite a 6-1 loss to Nicholls, qualified for the tournament as the eighth seed after Lamar lost to Northwestern State.

The men’s doubles matches were closely contested, with two of three courts going to tiebreaks. Beltran Fernandez and Carlos Melgosa won decisively at flight two with a 6-2 score. Marius Gyllerup and Jerall Yasin secured the doubles point for New Orleans by winning their tiebreak at flight three, while Nicholls took the tiebreak at flight one.

In singles play, Peter Kieslinger and Evgenios Vasilakis each earned straight-set victories for New Orleans in flights five and six. Fernandez clinched the match by defeating Colin Tavares 6-3, 6-3 in his first singles win at flight one.

On the women’s side, Ananya Dhankhar and Kateryna Kalistratova won a tiebreak in doubles at flight two but could not prevent Nicholls from taking the opening point after Julia Bordiginon and Jada Iverson won their own tiebreak for Nicholls. Kalistratova provided New Orleans’ only singles point of the day by defeating Aada Inna in straight sets to finish her regular season record at 13-2 overall.

Nicholls captured all other singles matches including both three-set contests. The Privateers will face top-seeded McNeese in Beaumont on Sunday, Apr. 19.
