The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will play against the No. 10 ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Tuesday, April 6, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg.
This matchup comes after the Privateers secured a weekend series win over McNeese, highlighted by a dramatic 13-inning victory on Saturday. Eli Tidwell delivered an RBI single to score Dathan Cummings, giving New Orleans its first walk-off win of the season.
Tidwell had eight hits in fifteen at-bats during the McNeese series, raising his batting average from .293 to .321 and providing the team’s first walk-off hit of the year. Luke Lycette earned recognition as Southland Pitcher of the Week—the first such honor for a Privateer this season—after recording a win and a save across three relief appearances last week. Lycette threw 128 pitches and struck out ten batters without allowing any runs over eight and two-thirds innings.
Kruise Newman enters this week on a nine-game hitting streak, batting .410 during that stretch and notching four hits in the series finale against McNeese. Newman has collected multiple hits in five games during his streak.
Defensively, New Orleans leads the nation with thirty-six double plays turned this season after completing six double plays over the weekend—the most in a weekend series since February 2025 against Boston College. The Privateers currently hold a narrow lead over Texas State, which has thirty-four double plays turned.
In their all-time meetings with Southern Miss, New Orleans has lost three straight games and trails in the series by nine games (61-52). The Golden Eagles come into Tuesday’s game following an 8-7 win over Old Dominion that improved their record to twenty-three wins and nine losses this season. Their pitching staff ranks eleventh nationally with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.14, while hitters Kyle Morrison, Joey Urban, and Davis Gillespie are each among Sun Belt leaders in home runs.
