The New Orleans Privateers will host the South Alabama Jaguars on April 29 at Maestri Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
This matchup comes as the Privateers approach their final two weeks of conference play. The team recently won the series opener against Lamar but dropped the next two games, leaving them two games behind a tie for eighth place in the standings with limited time remaining in the season.
Eli Tidwell leads New Orleans in runs scored and is ninth overall in the Southland Conference with 38 runs. Tidwell has demonstrated versatility by playing three different defensive positions this season and batting from seven different spots in the lineup, most frequently as leadoff hitter with 81 at-bats.
Miles Curley returned to action two weeks ago and has since recorded four extra-base hits out of five total hits, including two doubles and two home runs. Curley’s season totals include six doubles, one triple, and four home runs among his 28 hits. Dathan Cummings has also shown improvement recently, going seven-for-seventeen over his last six games while scoring eight runs during that stretch.
Defensively, New Orleans leads the nation in double plays turned this season with a total of 48 after recording two more against Lamar. The team is tied with La Salle for most double plays nationally heading into this week’s game.
Earlier this year, New Orleans defeated South Alabama in Mobile by a score of 2-1—their longest winning streak over South Alabama since an eight-game run from 1992 to 1995.
South Alabama enters Wednesday’s contest holding fifth place in Sun Belt play at an eleven-and-ten record after avoiding a sweep by winning their final game against #18 Southern Miss. Blake Guerin leads the Jaguars with fourteen home runs while Brennon Wright tops both batting average (.361) and runs scored (39).
