The New Orleans Privateers will begin week eight of Southland Conference play with a three-game home series against the Lamar Cardinals, starting Friday, Apr. 23. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

This matchup is significant as the Privateers are currently outside the top eight in the Southland standings, which determine qualification for the conference tournament. With three weekends left in regular season play, New Orleans trails eighth place by three games and faces opponents ranked first (Lamar), fourth (Nicholls), and tenth (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) in their remaining schedule.

The pitching rotation for the weekend features Bryson Goff facing Chris Olivier on Friday, Riley Marcotte versus Jarret Williams on Saturday, and Reid Leonard pitching Sunday for New Orleans against a yet-to-be-announced Lamar starter. Lane Alack has played a key role out of the bullpen this season by stranding 10 of 13 inherited baserunners and holding opposing hitters to a .231 average over at least 75 batters faced.

Offensively, Dylan Biddick hit a home run and drove in five runs during Tuesday’s game against LSU, though LSU scored seven runs in one inning to secure a win over New Orleans. Kruise Newman added his tenth homer of the year and joins Tristan Moore (2023) and Victor Castillo (2024) as recent Privateers who reached double-digit homers in their debut seasons with New Orleans. Adrian Dominguez has also contributed recently by hitting .353 over his last six games with eight runs batted in during that stretch.

Lamar enters this series after sweeping Northwestern State last weekend to take over first place in the conference standings. Chris Olivier has been named Southland Pitcher of the Week four times this season and ranks among conference leaders in innings pitched, earned run average, strikeouts, and opponent batting average.
