The New Orleans Privateers baseball team is set to begin its first conference road series of the season with a trip to Edinburg, Texas, where they will face the UTRGV Vaqueros. The series opens on Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Sunday game at 1 p.m.

The pitching matchups are scheduled as follows: William Andrade for New Orleans against Sergio Lopez for UTRGV on Friday; Reid Leonard versus Harrison Thayer on Saturday; and Bryson Goff against Mason Engel on Sunday.

Earlier this week, the Privateers secured an 11-6 victory over Jackson State at home. Kruise Newman contributed his fourth home run of the season, which was also the team’s second grand slam. Luke Hymel recorded his first win of the year as a pitcher.

Currently, New Orleans holds a .294 team batting average, ranking third in their conference behind Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Privateers are tied for second in home runs with 15 and tied for fourth in total runs scored at 91.

Adrian Dominguez has maintained a hitting streak spanning eight games and currently holds a .343 batting average. Last season, he finished with a .393 average. During his current streak, he has produced four multi-hit games.

On Tuesday’s game against Jackson State, both Evan Rogers and Newman each drove in four runs. So far this season, five Privateers players—Dylan Biddick, Miles Curley, Jake D’Altrui, along with Rogers and Newman—have posted games with four or more RBIs.

Last season when these teams met at Maestri Field, UTRGV swept New Orleans. That matchup marked their first meeting since UTRGV’s formation through a school merger in 2013.

UTRGV enters the weekend with a .222 team batting average—the lowest in the Southland Conference—and has scored 68 runs so far this season. Harrison Thayer is notable among their pitchers; he ranks fourth in league ERA (1.17) and second in opponent batting average (.137). The Vaqueros were swept by Lamar during their opening conference series.
